So I thought, this would be the best question to answer to start my blog.
The word “doula” comes from the ancient Greek meaning ” a woman who serves.” In today’s time, a doula refers to a professionally trained person who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to women throughout their pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
The second most asked question is:
Do I need a doula?
And I always answer it with:
Only you know what you need. No one can answer this question for you. You are more than capable of having a baby without a doula, as well as taking care of your baby through the postpartum period. However, the better question would be is a doula beneficial for you and your family?
A doula can be beneficial if you:
Have lack of support
Anxiety surrounding birth, or postpartum
Need help advocating for yourself
Need assistance during birth and postpartum
Need someone to be a sounding board etc.
